MOD12Q1 V004 Land Cover Product Binary Data
from Boston University

  These files are reprojected mosaic exports from NASA TERRA/MODIS HDF-EOS MOD12Q1 V004 products. If what you need isn't available here, please contact John Hodges, jcfh@bu.edu, 617-353-2088.

The binary files are flat 8 bit layers compressed with the GNU "gzip" utility. Associated ASCII text metadata files are provided.

  CAVEAT: These files are provided as a courtesy to users having difficulty with the officially released data. These are not the official data product releases.

  LARGE FILE WARNING! Note the file sizes and consider your bandwidth before you click on a data link!

  NOTE: The official MOD12Q1 2001001 V004 data were publically released at the EDC DAAC on April 16, 2004. The data set name to search for at EDC is "MODIS/TERRA LAND COVER TYPE 96-DAY L3 GLOBAL 1KM ISIN GRID V004". A global extent search should return 317 land tiles.



Nominal Data Day 2001001

Note: The 2001001 V004 product was made from MODIS data from the period 1/1/01 to 12/31/01. Updated documentation for this product will be posted soon. In the meantime, documentation pertaining to the 2000289 V003 product is still available here.

The 2000289 V003 product was made from MODIS data from the period 10/15/00 to 10/15/01. It is designated as "Validated, Level 1." Please see the discussion on validation and accuracy assessment of this product in HTML or in PDF. The 200289 V003 version of this product was used as the base layer of a centerfold map and on line shockwave file by Time magazine on 26 August, 2002. We appreciate notice of the uses to which our products contribute.
